Yoga enters people’s lives for all sorts of reasons. Some are looking for a way to find some peace in their hectic days. Others want to find new ways to move and strengthen their bodies. No matter how you discover yoga, one thing’s for sure: A yoga body transformation will absolutely change your life for the better.
Over the years I’ve had so many students come through my yoga courses and go from feeling “blah” to their best. Whether they’re practicing yoga to feel better in their minds, bodies, or both, my program empowers them to feel better and find their purpose.
Today, I’m telling you about my student Dona’s yoga body transformation.
Time for a Change
Raise your hand if you wish you felt less stress in your life. How about if you know you need to do something for yourself, but you just don’t know what? Or when you can find the time?
Dona was right there with you before she started working with me. Like so many women and moms, she needed some tools to deal with stress and anxiety. Between work, home, and all the things, it’s pretty common for us to feel overloaded and overwhelmed. Dona knew it was time to find a way to deal with it all better for her mind and body.
Why is it so hard for us to do something good for ourselves? It probably has something to do with how busy we are taking care of everyone and everything else.
But if we want to make sure we’re taken care of, it’s up to us.
When Dona realized that she was the only one who could make herself a priority, who could make sure that her mental and physical health were just as important as all the other things she juggles, she decided it was time for a change.
She wanted to move and connect with her body. She wanted to feel stronger, more relaxed, and more centered in her busy life. So when Dona joined me and decided to invest in her health and happiness, she was ready to make things happen.
Letting Go
We’re all our worst enemies sometimes, aren’t we? I know in my case, Mean Jessica pipes in from time to time to second guess me. When we’re not sure about whether we can do something, if we have what it takes to not just try something new but do it well… it’s pretty easy to get in your own way.
But if you can learn to acknowledge those inner voices and move forward with them, there’s really nothing you can’t make happen for yourself. I give that Mean Jessica a mental hug and assure her it’s okay, and then I show her just what I can do.
For Dona, her biggest challenge to starting her yoga body transformation was letting go of her ego. She knew she was new to yoga and that it would challenge her in many ways, but she took the leap. She let go of her uncertainties and any of those self-doubt voices, and did it: something completely new and different. And you know what? She never looked back.
Learning to Breathe
Throughout her yoga body transformation, Dona learned how to breathe. I don’t just mean how to stop and take a breath when you need to calm down or find some peace. I’m talking about breathing in yoga, and in life.
There’s something pretty amazing that happens when you start practicing yoga and learning how to breathe. Something as simple as breathing in and out of your nose can have noticeable, positive effects on your body. When you learn how to breathe in a way that benefits your physical self, and your mental health, you notice just how important it is to breathe in life.
“Breathing” definitely wasn’t a focus for Dona before she started her yoga body transformation with me. But, as we got further in her practice, she realized that breathing wasn’t just a tool to help her in yoga. It’s a tool that helps her balance and navigate all sorts of moments and experiences in life.
Knowing how to breathe in the way her body needs, especially when it comes to stressful situations or challenging times, helps Dona keep her wits about her. She’s able to stay calm and focus her attention where she needs it. Practicing yoga and investing in herself showed Dona how.
A Safe Space for a Yoga Body Transformation
Look, I’ve walked into those big box gyms before. The ones where you’re a number in the system, where there are what feels like a ton of people around you focused on that crazy machine that you’re too scared to try (because how the heck does it work?) There’s nothing worse than wanting to try something, wanting to do something for yourself, but being intimidated.
Working on her yoga body transformation with me gave Dona a safe space to try something new and see just what she’s capable of. She loves the community it brought into her life, the patience she was given while she figured out just how to make yoga work for her, and even the challenging parts!
Yoga for Anyone and Everyone
Yoga isn’t just for people who are flexible or zen. I mean, sure, it helps. But you don’t have to be experienced or remotely familiar with it to experience a powerful yoga body transformation with me: You just have to be ready to make a positive change and invest in yourself.
