Five Productivity Tips

A year ago, my business started to really take off, and there were SO many different things to tend to every day. I started my own business to have more flexibility and freedom, but things were starting to feel VERY un-fun.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I spent some time in that trap that most business owners know too well-work seemed to create MORE WORK. Then, I decided that I would do it a different way.  No more of this self-created busy business. I had to get organized and clear some things off my plate.

Here are my FIVE PRODUCTIVITY TIPS for the work at home mom:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Schedule That Shizz

Planners are all the rage for some reason.  Maybe it’s because we are all grasping for some way to keep it all straight. I don’t really like many of the planners I’ve bought, so I created one (link in bio) But, find one you like and will ACTUALLY USE. I like ones with lots of blank space to jot down ideas as they come…oh and if you’re not a “planner fan”, your notes app on smart phone works, too.

Prioritize Your Faves

Try not to overbook your schedule. Pick a few major things each day, but don’t forget to schedule some play time. Start with the most important stuff to make sure it gets done.  It gives you a sense of accomplishment. Then, schedule some time for the things that make you happy. A little fun every day is a priority!

Naps, Rest & Meditation

Wait, kids napping is the best time to get stuff done! DON’T. Get quiet and still for at least 20 minutes every afternoon. You will actually be MORE productive if you do this.  Everything tends to work better if you unplug it once in a while.

Ditch The Distractions

When you do get a chance to sit down and work without your toddler tugging on your shirt every two minutes, it feels like some kind of blissful heaven. But, make sure you aren’t distracted by anything else. Turn your phone on silent or leave it in another room. Multitasking is not your friend. When you try to focus on too many things at once nothing gets your full attention and you can’t do your best work.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Outsource

All those successful mompreneurs you see online? They have a staff. Don’t think for one minute that they have built a beautiful website, post to IG regularly, coach clients, write, speak, travel, meal prep and raise children all on their own. If you find yourself getting bogged down with a certain area of your business repeatedly, look for ways to delegate or outsource it so you can focus on doing the parts you enjoy and are suited to your strengths.

Jessica Depew

I'm Jess. I'm an attorney, writer, CEO, yoga teacher and a heart-centered mom of three. I'm dedicated to helping you grow your business alongside your family and be the person you most want to be. If you're curious about my background and how I came to do what I do, here's the riveting story (get your popcorn ready)... I'm a born and raised Texas girl (hook 'em!) bred with equal parts no-nonsense discipline and sweet southern charm. I'm a preacher's kid and an obsessive self-development junkie who spends time reading, teaching, writing and coaching heart-centered business women in building their online empires. Ironically, I try to spend as much time offline as possible. I love chick-fil-a waffle fries and I can rap every word of "Ice, Ice Baby" on demand. I've owned and helped run multiple businesses over the past 20 years—law firms, yoga studios, tech companies and cyber forensic startups—just to name a few. I'm honored to have been named one of Southeast TX's "Top 40 Entrepreneurs Under 40" and my 12 YO has assured me that I'm "legit pretty cool for a mom". Through years of teaching and coaching women in business, leading retreats around the world and creating life-changing programs and courses, I help women like you dream big, clear mental-emotional blocks and finally take action that creates results.
